Class of 2012

Where are they now?

"Hello, my name is Chelsea Fender.

I am a proud 2012 alumna of Dorchester Academy. I attended the College of Charleston, where I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Public Health. After graduation, I decided to pursue a career as a Flight Attendant with Delta Airlines. I was thrilled to receive a job opportunity and underwent eight weeks of intensive training at Delta’s headquarters. During my training, I learned how to handle passenger and crew conflicts, respond to medical emergencies, and, most importantly, safely evacuate an aircraft in the event of an emergency.

Working at 35,000 feet is something I thoroughly enjoy. Being a Flight Attendant has provided me with incredible travel opportunities, a flexible schedule, and the chance to meet some of the most amazing people.

Dorchester Academy has been an integral part of my life in many ways. It is where I met my husband, Grande Fender, in the summer of 9th grade. We have been together ever since and now have a beautiful two-year-old who will be attending Dorchester Academy in 2026. My mother was also an alumna of Dorchester Academy and shared my career path as a Delta Flight Attendant.

Dorchester Academy gave me all the fundamentals I needed to become a critical-thinking, kind, and driven young woman. I am forever grateful for the lessons and values instilled in me during my time there."

Our History, Our legacy

With a primary concern for excellence in education under a Christian ideology, Dorchester Academy, Inc. was founded in 1966. Many concerned individuals worked diligently to promote this comprehensive educational alternative. The first Board of Directors was comprised of Dr. F. L. Shuler, President; Hugh Parler, Jr., Vice-President; Patricia H. Walters, Secretary; D.M. Rogers, Director; and Dr. J. Gavin Appleby, Director.

The brick and mortar building and surrounding facilities are a product of generations of dedication to our school.  Thousands of volunteer hours and the sweat of our grandparents laid the foundation from which we've built upon.  Dorchester Academy, long may you stand.  â€‹â€‹

To continue the legacy of hard work and dedication, your donations are appreciated.
